The Jumbo Number Puzzle goes from 1 - 20. It is a large puzzle, measuring 1 x 13.6 x 15.8 inches. The number pieces are thick, so they can stand on their own. And it is recommended for ages 36 months to 6 years. Both my sons play with it, ages 18 months and 3 years.
Each number has a colorful square that you can place it in. The square has images that correspond with the number. So, for example, the number 1 sits on top of a square with one dinosaur. The number 10 sits on a square that features 10 white mice.
What I Love:
Already my 18 month old is saying numbers and counting, with encouragement from this puzzle. So I love that it reinforces those skills for both him and my three year old. I also love that the thick pieces are easy to handle for a toddler.
And since you can stand the numbers up, you can use them to introduce patterns to your child. For example 2, 4, 6, 8 ... or 3, 9, 12, 15.
My Pet and Dinosaur puzzles from Melissa & Doug are painted. My Bug and this Alphabet puzzle has pieces that are laminated with an image. These pieces cannot get wet and should not be mouthed, because it will remove the image. I wish they were painted like my other puzzles. When purchasing a Melissa & Doug puzzle, you can tell the difference by looking at the side of the puzzle piece. If it has color, it is painted and will last longer.
Also, some of the number pieces are interchangeable. For example, I can put the number 13 in the 12 spot and vice versa, so you definitely have to sit with a child learning their numbers as they work the puzzle. Otherwise they might be all out of order!
Overall, this would make a great gift or learning toy for any child! I would definitely keep an eye out for the handpainted ones.
